🧠 General Therapy FAQs

1. What can I expect in my first session?
In your first session, your therapist will ask questions to better understand your concerns, background, and goals for therapy. It's a chance for you to get comfortable and decide if it's a good fit.

2. How long are sessions?
Most individual therapy sessions are 50 minutes. Some specialized sessions may run longer — your therapist will let you know.

3. How often will I need to come to therapy?
Most clients attend weekly, especially in the beginning. Some shift to biweekly or monthly as progress continues. Your therapist will work with you to determine the right schedule.

4. How long will I be in therapy?
Therapy length varies. Some clients come for a few months, others stay longer for deeper work. We’ll regularly check in on your progress and goals.

💳 Payment, Insurance, & Policies

5. Do you accept insurance?
Yes, we accept all insurances! However, some practitioners may opt out of specific insurances. Contact us if you’re unsure about your coverage.

6. What if I don’t have insurance?
We believe in accessibility and want to meet you where you’re at financially. Having a therapist shouldn’t be a financial stress.

7. What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations. Late cancellations or no-shows may be subject to a fee pending on your practitioners policies, inquire wit your practitioner to find out what their policy is.

8. How do I choose a therapist?

9. Can I switch therapists if it’s not a good fit?
Absolutely. We want you to feel comfortable and supported. Let us know, and we’ll help you transition.

10. Do you offer virtual therapy?
Yes! We offer secure, HIPAA-compliant video sessions for clients who prefer to meet online.

11. Can I do a mix of in-person and virtual sessions?
In many cases, yes. Just let your therapist know what works best for you.

12. Do you work with teens, couples, or families?
Yes. We offer therapy for individual adults currently. Visit our Services page for more info.

13. What issues do you specialize in?
Our team has experience with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, life transitions, chronic illness, and more. Each therapist lists their specialties on their bio.

🕊️ Confidentiality & Safety

14. Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Your sessions are private and confidential, with a few exceptions related to safety (like risk of harm to self or others), which we’ll explain in your first session.

15. What if I’m in crisis?
We are not a crisis center. If you're in immediate danger, please call 911 or go to the nearest ER. You can also contact the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988.

  • Cope Mobile Crisis Response (Hennepin County)
    A no-cost crisis team that will come to your location. Available 24/7 for adults and youth, separate from police response. Call 612‑596‑1223 or text CRISIS (274747) from a cell phone. Children under 18 can also access the service via 612‑348‑2233.

  • Minneapolis Behavioral Crisis Response (BCR)
    Unarmed mental health professionals respond to 911 calls in the city, offering an alternative to police intervention.
